Halloween: Resurrection (2002)

Thanks to Paul of Then & Now Movie Locations for allowing me to use some of his photos for this page.

Grace Andersen Sanitarium
  • Riverview Hospital (West Lawn Building) - 2601 Lougheed Hwy, Coquitlam, BC
  • 49.245554, -122.808970

The Grace Andersen Sanitarium is in reality the West Lawn building of Riverview Hospital, a former mental health facility. The West Lawn building itself closed in 1983 and aside from its use as a filming location has remained abandoned ever since. Both interior and exterior filming took place at this location, however, the sanitarium roof was built on the same makeshift soundstage as the Myers house exterior (see that location for more information).

Haddonfield University
  • University of British Columbia (Chemistry Building) - 2036 Main Mall, Vancouver, BC

The establishing shot of Haddonfield University was filmed in front of the Chemistry building near the corner of Main Mall and Agricultural Road.

In front of the Myers house

After arriving on location Freddie and the cast approach the Myers house at 2085 Parker Street, which didn't really exist there as it was purpose built on a makeshift soundstage (see further down). The Shape's p.o.v of the street from the window was however filmed on location, with the camera placed atop of scaffolding and positioned behind a window of the Myers house that had been transported to the set.

Trick-or-treating
  • 2047 Parker St, Vancouver, BC

The Myers house street (what should be Lampkin Lane) then reappears later in the film when a group of trick-or-treaters can be seen running past the house at 2047 Parker Street, before placing a jack-o'-lantern on the porch of the Myers house on a soundstage (see the following location).

The Myers house (exterior)

The exterior of the Myers house was purpose built in the 'W Building' at the Seaspan Vancouver Drydock. The building is primarily used for ship assembly but it also functions as a soundstage (known as the Fast Cat Studio at the time of filming). The house was built at the south end of the warehouse with the large door acting as the blue screen for the backdrop that was added in digitally.

The Myers house (interior)
  • 1195 Charles St, Vancouver, BC

The interior of the Myers house along with the tunnels beneath it were constructed in a large warehouse located at the corner of William Street and Vernon Drive in Vancouver. It was revealed on the set tour special feature that the building was not tall enough to construct both floors together, so the upstairs section had to be constructed separately.

I believe the other sets were also constructed here, including the house where the partygoers watch the webcast and also the morgue area.

Special thanks to Production Designer Troy Hansen for providing this location.

  1. I gotta say, for such a crappy sequel, they had some top-notch production design!! They could've just filmed the sets from creepy angles, with no dialogue whatsoever, and it would've been a better film.

    1. Agreed, the production design was maybe the best thing about this one. The exterior they built was amazing and it's a shame it wasn't used more in the film.
